Don Quixote-esk

The Earliest Stages

Well I got my first ever commission job.

Not that head

It was to get a suitable model for a mates DND character who was going to be based on Don Quixote.

Close but wrong pose.

Don Quixote was the main protagonist from what is arguably the first modern novel ever written, from what I understand hes trying to prove that chivalry is not dead in a action filled romcom. Honestly it might make for a good read if I ever stopped looking at screens long enough to read a book again.

Sword was to thick

There was alot of back and forth around posing and weapons and what head to use but eventually settled on this. Quixote D'Dartagnan was born.

Helping Stablize the "blade" while it dries

Then I kept snapping his arm off while trying to sculpt in all the missing details for the cape and arms etc.

Charming Lad

After several sessions of Greenstuff he was finally ready to go.

Too Many Layers

From Loin Cloth to Cape

On Guard!

But if he was going to be a DND model he would need a carry case and who doesn't want to display their DND mini. So I went to DAISO and came up with this:

So Clean

Aside from me having putty on my fingers as I held and sculpted the display inside it and leaving fingerprints that were almost impossible to scrub off I believe it turned out great.

Next time I will work out how to do the putty away from the clear plastic

Of Course Magnets for Traveling

Its owner is very happy with it and to quote them: "Thank you very much for bringing this character to life. The extravagance of the character will only ever be able to be matched the figure that represents him and the home for it."

No longer clean

He also said his friends were surprised I don't do this professionally (I wish).

Was happy with the flock till I see the photos

Can't beat Wellington on a good day

Now that that is out of the way I can finally add some paint to the Van Saar. I am 4 weeks into the campaign so will do a catch up post with the short stories once I have some images to go with my walls of text. In the meantime here is the end game boss. It will take me 3 Campaigns to realise. Idea is for a full Grav Board gang but you can only get Grav boards on Juves. Juves can be promoted to Champions if you carry the gang into the next campaign and the same applies to Champions becoming leaders. Will probably end up with a gang of juve stat lines though...

What was and What will be

What Was

Well I can admit I was extremely slack last year. In terms of what I achieved since my last post we have 2 more marines painted (eeek Pathetic) . I stopped for a bit as I just wasn't quite happy with the paint scheme, it felt like it was missing something and the white on the arms just bothers me so I tried to change it slightly for these two with some recess shading, still not happy though.

I made and painted these 3 Warriors and their Alpha, I think honestly considering they give you 4 bodies and 4 heads that its just rude there are only 3 sets of legs.

Thankfully I had a spare hive tyrant tail that made for a nice serpentine look that helps the Alpha differentiate a bit more.

And I painted my 'Exocrine'.

Not to mention I finished Ganesh and co who I am quite happy with and was probably the most interesting project of the year.

What Will Be

2022 is off to a good start with me having already painted 5 models which is almost as many as I painted last year. I started with the Christmas gift which was an infinity model and painted him using the new metallic paints I also got for Christmas.

I also knocked out these Blackstone Fortress/Necromunda Minis in record time. The Tau mini was from when I was a kid, he had already been painted (poorly) but adding several layers of stains and grime (also a new Christmas present) with some basing and his lens coloured in he actually looks decent

Now I am setting some goals for this year. I have things I need to get done, such as these 3 marines who are still waiting for me to figure out how to paint white.

These Enforcers who will be doubling up their patrols in both Necromunda and as Scouts in 40k.

And for some silly reason I got the new GSC codex and my Pure Genestealer Army is getting some new units.

The Neophytes are looking okay and should be distinct enough I hope, I have some special weapons being printed for the mining laser and grenade launcher as I couldn't work out how to represent them with the parts I had.

Rockgrinder looks nothing like its GSC counterpart but at least its the right size or close enough.

As for the HQs the Space Hulk Genestealer I used has a terrible pose and is impossible to take a photo of but I am loving my Zen Magus the Spiritual leader for my army, though I am stuck as to what to do about making him an organic staff.

Well that all folks, hopefully I can keep myself honest this year and post more updates as well as start getting my photography skills back up to scratch.

Theres a new Queen in town.

I have been incredibly slack when it comes to taking photos of my models lately which in turn has lead to no blog posts as it would be incredibly boring to read my walls of text without the pretty pictures of the models discussed.

As such while the photos may not be wonderfully done I have made sure I take them and will use this a general catch up post. As only one model is entirely complete they get the naming rights to the post.
That is the dakka queen for my Nids, I had the parts to make another tyrant and went with extra dakka, some very simple conversion work but should be enough to make it feel unique and the engine on the front helps bring in the storyline told across some of my other Nids.

Despite being my only complete model shes not the only thing I have worked on, we have the Christmas Present for my best friend which is turning out to be next Christmas's present at this rate. Its an overly ambitious model of an Elephant deity sitting on his throne with a nice scenic base.

I made it magnetic so that you can reduce the base size down enough that you can play with it as a huge creature in DND and have a nice side character interacting with it on the scenic base.

This was originally going to be a skink with poison dart frog colours defending it but I scratched the paint job decided it was to visually busy anyway and now the elephants just having a chat with a Spanish Conquistador.

Where the barrel comes from is question that I cannot justify an answer too but it gives it some balance.

The Marines have not been stopped but I am finding it incredibly hard to motivate myself to do the painting which is way more intensive than any army before them. As such 5 are painted with 4 needing decals (yes we are counting the test model) and the rest of the squad needs alot of work.

Not to mention the other squad that need alot of attention... (and all those models that are not built yet)

I have finished the display board for the marines, yes it is the playmat that comes with the Start collecting sets and I have durasealed it on top of a corflute sheet covered in magnetic sheets. My Duraseal work is as bad as when I was a kid, aka terrible and full of wrinkles and air bubbles. However the joy of having my models on a magnetic display board well outweights how badly I did it.

For my son we have a Skorpehk style Overlord to go with his Skorpehk army. The warrior legs have been 3D printed but were spaced at 32mm on the outside ring and are just the tiniest bit to big for the model, good thing I have 20 of them.

Last but not least I actually managed to get a game in with a Co-Worker. At a 1000pts I have to say a Barbed Heirodule is insanely good and that the new Space Marine Eradicators are way over hyped as they didn't deal any damage to the Heirodule at all (He rolled really bad and I made my 1 Invuln save)
